From Salem, OR, Sean Russell Hallowell is a musician and composer living in San Francisco, CA. He makes electroacoustic music guided by a fascination with pre-given sound and attentive the devices that mediate it. He holds degrees in music from Brown University (AB) and Columbia University (PhD) where he wrote a dissertation on the metaphysical valences of compositional tradition in Medieval Europe.
During the 2016-17 academic year he lectured in the Department of Music at the University of California, Berkeley, and in 2017 he began a Postdoctoral Fellowship at Stanford University.
The speakers through which his music have occasionally resounded have been described as “sniff-worthy” (~ his cat).
