From Salem, OR, Sean Russell Hallowell is a musician and composer now living in San Francisco, CA. He makes experimental music that is guided by a fascination with the aesthetic potential inherent in pre-given sounds and attentive to the sound-making devices, both acoustic and electronic, that mediate it. He holds degrees in music from Brown University (AB) and Columbia University (PhD), where he researched the metaphysical valences of compositional techniques and musical traditions distinctive of Medieval Europe. During the 2016-2017 academic year he lectured at the University of California, Berkeley, and in the fall of 2017 he began a Postdoctoral Fellowship at Stanford University.
